~~~ BREECHES ~~~
Beeches were the pants style of the time and were another basic clothing item. They buttoned at the waist and instead of a zipper had a buttoned up flap in front that dropped down. The length of the pant leg came down to just below the knee where they either buckled or buttoned. This style was worn very tight around the legs with the rear being baggy to allow for easy movement. They were made in many colors and were constructed of linen, cotton, wool, or leather. As a uniform item, the 1st dragoons would have worn brown or buff colored leather breeches. Acceptable substitutes would be white or natural colored linen or white cotton canvas material. Cloth breeches can either be self produced or purchased from 18th century suppliers. The leather ones would have to be constructed by the individual.
