~~~ CANTEENS ~~~
A canteen was a liquid container that was carried over the shoulders. These could have been made of tin, wood or a hollow dried gourd. At the time period that we portray, our troop would have carried kidney shaped tin canteens. This style had been used during the French and Indian and was still being used at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Also acceptable would be the much larger tin canteens that the Hessian soldiers carried. Many Hessian soldiers were captured by our unit during the time period we portray and undoubtedly we would have utilized captured equipment. Wooden canteens are also acceptable and were used later in the southern campaign. All canteens styles can be purchased from 18th century suppliers.
