~~~ HAVERSACK ~~~
A haversack was large square (approx. 12”X12”) cloth bag that was carried by a soldier over his shoulder to hold food provisions. These bags generally were made of white or natural colored coarse linen, and had a flap that was either secured by buttons or small leather straps. We would prefer to use the linen style that was period correct but a cotton canvas material would also be acceptable. Haversacks can either be self produced or be purchased from 18th century suppliers.
