Parade Appearances
In addition to our living history teaching events, the 1st Regiment of Light Dragoons, 5th Troop participates in Holiday and special event parades. The Dragoons bring a glimpse of the past and a bit of excitement to any parade. Our troops step off with the dismounted troopers leading the way with their shouldered musket barrels gleaming in the sunlight, escorting one of our nation’s earliest flags the "Betsy Ross", followed by a line of troopers on horseback with their sabers drawn.
What makes our attendance special is that while on the march our dismounted soldiers are able load and fire their muskets as we walk past the crowds. The horses we bring are seasoned war horses, who continue the march un-phased by the gunfire. We take great pride in our ability to accomplish this rather unique show with the utmost safety of both our members and the public watching the parade. We do carry our own liability insurance and can provide additionally insured certificates to any groups or sites involved with a parade.
